Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, who represents the Ondo Central Senatorial District, has once again demonstrated a commitment to service that continues to set him apart in Nigeria’s contemporary political landscape. At the Adegbonmire Renewed Hope Mega Empowerment Programme held in Akure, the state capital, the senator reaffirmed both his loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his unwavering dedication to the socioeconomic upliftment of his constituents. The event, which drew residents from across the 65 wards in Ondo Central, provided an inspiring show of leadership, purpose, and people-centred governance.
Speaking with characteristic clarity and confidence, Senator Adegbonmire declared that President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 is not only secure but essentially uncontested. In his view, neither the opposition nor any coalition presents a credible challenge capable of thwarting the President’s return. His remarks, firm yet measured, reflected his deep conviction in the administration’s performance and the broad-based acceptance he believes it enjoys across the country. Dismissing suggestions of a viable opposition, he reiterated that those speculations lack substance and seriousness.
At the heart of the senator’s remarks stood his renewed commitment to ensuring that the achievements of the Tinubu administration are tangibly felt among the people. The empowerment programme, which facilitated the support of no fewer than 900 beneficiaries, encapsulated the Renewed Hope agenda that the President has championed. According to Adegbonmire, the initiative was not merely an isolated act of generosity but a deliberate extension of the President’s and the state government’s developmental objectives, replicated at the grassroots where it matters most.
The empowerment items distributed were diverse and thoughtfully selected to address real economic needs. From motorcycles and tricycles to sewing machines, grinding machines, generators, hair dryers, wheelchairs, educational materials, and food items, the array of tools provided reflected a strategic intent: to uplift households, stimulate micro-businesses, and expand opportunities for self-reliance. The senator noted that the empowerment was tailored to help beneficiaries generate income rather than rely on episodic handouts. This approach, he stated, aligns with his philosophy of teaching people “how to fish, rather than giving them fish.”
Adegbonmire offered insight into the scale of the initiative, explaining that at least ten beneficiaries were selected from each ward, alongside an additional 200 widows, artisans, and market women who received cash support. This comprehensive outreach underscores his determination to ensure equitable access to opportunities for progress. He emphasized that this gesture of gratitude to his constituents comes at a time when he has completed just over two and a half years in the Senate, with 2024 marking the first full year of effective representation due to the transition and budgetary adjustments that dominated 2023.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by his Special Adviser on Legislative Matters, Babatunde Kolawole, praised the senator’s initiative, describing it as a timely and strategic intervention that perfectly aligns with the state’s development aspirations. He noted that the empowerment items would serve as tools for creating livelihoods, promoting self-reliance, and preparing citizens to thrive in a dynamic world. He emphasized that the senator’s gesture reflects a shared commitment to building a society where progress is inclusive and prosperity is widely shared.
The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Ade Adetimehin, commended Adegbonmire’s exemplary performance, stating that he had gone far beyond the constitutional duties of a legislator. Highlighting one of the senator’s significant accomplishments—securing a Federal Teaching Hospital for the state—Adetimehin praised his dedication, which he said was deeply inspired by the legacy of his late father, High Chief Wunmi Adegbonmire, a respected political icon.
Traditional rulers also lent their voices in admiration. The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, and the Olu Abo of Ilu-Abo and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Oba Olu Falae, applauded the senator’s uncommon devotion to public service. They acknowledged that although he hails from a distinguished political family, Adegbonmire has earned his achievements through personal hard work, character, and a genuine commitment to people. The monarchs, while blessing him and praying for greater accomplishments, urged beneficiaries to use the items responsibly and resist the temptation to sell them.
The Chief Imam of Akure, Alhaji Abdul-Hakeem Yayi-Akorede, added his voice to the chorus of commendations, acknowledging the senator’s consistency in supporting the community and promoting initiatives that directly uplift the most vulnerable.
In every respect, the Renewed Hope Mega Empowerment Programme stands as a testament to Senator Adegbonmire’s vision of leadership anchored in accountability, compassion, and strategic impact. His clear political convictions, combined with concrete actions that improve everyday lives, continue to reinforce his reputation as a legislator deeply attuned to the needs of his people. At a time when public trust in governance is often shaken, his efforts represent a refreshing model of what responsive and responsible political representation should look like.
