The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has once again demonstrated its commitment to revitalizing the nation’s security framework by promoting and decorating 13,977 officers in a landmark event. With the promotion of 6,697 officers within the Assistant Superintendent of Immigration (ASI) to Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) ranks, and an additional 7,280 officers from the ranks of Immigration Assistants (IA) and Inspector of Immigration (II), this marks a significant stride towards ending career stagnation within the service. Of particular note, five officers were specially promoted for their exceptional contributions to the agency’s progress.

This monumental achievement could not have been possible without the determined leadership of the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. Since assuming office, the Minister has remained unwavering in his mission to ensure that the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and other agencies under his ministry thrive in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The promotion and decoration of such a large number of officers is a testament to the strides being made in career development and professional growth within the NIS. This unprecedented action not only boosts morale but also creates a culture of excellence and dedication within the service. Through these reforms, Hon. Tunji-Ojo is fostering an environment where diligent and high-performing officers are recognized and rewarded for their efforts, further driving the agency towards sustained institutional growth.

This transformation is part of the larger framework under the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to reform and strengthen institutions, ensuring that they are equipped to face the evolving challenges of governance and national security. Under the Minister’s guidance, the NIS has been revitalized, not only improving the efficiency of the service but also contributing significantly to national development by promoting officers who are integral to securing the nation’s borders and managing migration effectively.

The Minister’s proactive approach has also extended beyond the NIS, reflecting a broader commitment to reforming all the agencies under the Ministry of Interior. From the Nigerian Correctional Service to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Hon. Tunji-Ojo has fostered immense progress across the board. His leadership has brought about increased professionalism, a commitment to institutional integrity, and the revitalization of career advancement pathways, ensuring that personnel can rise through the ranks based on merit and performance.

In recognizing and promoting this large number of officers, Hon. Tunji-Ojo has demonstrated his understanding of the importance of human resources in national security. These promotions send a powerful message that hard work, commitment, and professionalism will always be rewarded, ensuring a motivated workforce that will continue to serve the country with excellence.

The NIS under Hon. Tunji-Ojo’s leadership is now poised to meet the modern challenges of immigration and border management with renewed vigor, further strengthening Nigeria’s security and advancing the service’s mission. The promotion of these officers represents not only individual career growth but also a more effective and efficient NIS that is better equipped to serve the nation in its quest for progress, stability, and security.

In sum, the progress within the Nigerian Immigration Service is not just a reflection of the dedication of its officers, but of the transformative leadership that Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo continues to provide. As he champions reforms across all agencies under the Ministry of Interior, Nigeria can look forward to a future where institutions are stronger, more efficient, and truly aligned with the vision of a Renewed Hope for the nation.
