As the good sons and daughters of Akiko anticipate this year celebration of the Oka Day, the recently concluded grand finale of the Hon. Akogun Omole Football Competition
All thanks to men like Hon. Akogun Olugbenga and the success of the third edition of the Akogun Olugbenga Omole football competition which saw to the coming together of various football teams in the region fighting for the topmost prize.
The grand finale which occurred on the 3rd of August 2021 was witnessed by notable men like the legendary Ex-Nigerian football player, Mutiu Adepoju popularly known as the Headmaster, the Olubaka of Oka, Dr. Yusuf Adebori Adeleye OON among a host of other notable figures and personality saw Charity FC clinching the ultimate football prize as they got the better of their worthy opponent, Wangara FC at the Ojomirin High School, Agba Oka in the front of over 5000 spectators.
While both sides thrilled spectators to a wonderful and exciting display of football talents and skills, it was also another opportunity to scout and unearth raw football talents who has the potential to attaining global stardom, Ace striker, Mutiu Adepoju during the event commended Hon. Akogun Omole and his team for providing youths in the region with a platform to express themselves and showcase their God given abilities. According to him, there are lots of talents in the country especially from the grassroots and that these talents can only be discovered through platforms like this. In his words, “We have discovered talents here today, despite the playing condition of the football pitch, these talents if properly harnessed has the potential to playing at the very highest level of football.”
His words were also re-emphasized by the Olubaka of Oka, Dr. Yusuf Adebori Adeleye OON, according to the Monarch, Hon. Akogun Omole has been noted for his consistency in helping the youths grow and develop, he also applauded him for organizing the football competition which will go a long way in motivating the youths to pursue excellence in their various endeavors.
Also the organizer of the competition, Hon Akogun Olugbenga Omole in his address stated that the primary purpose of the competition is not just to unearth football talents in Oka, but also to have one of the best Football Academy in Oka Akoko. According to him, the foundation of the Football Academy will be laid before the start of the next Oka Day Celebration next year. In his words, “The Academy when put in place will not only provide jobs for our people but it will permanently put Oka on the World Map, through which talents will be properly harnessed and youths be more engaged for productivity through sports”
He further explained that football has now become a huge business globally, as footballers and non-footballers have started to make huge financial profit and career advancement through it.
Trophies were presented to the winners while individual prizes were also given to the highest goal scorer, best goalkeeper, and most valuable player, best coach and others.
Kudos to Hon. Akogun Omole for creating this huge platform for youths in Akoko, over the years, he has shown a renewed vigor and consistent efforts at pushing for the advancement of the interest of youths in Akoko, all around him are youths who always chooses to identify with him, this is because he has wholly given himself to ensure that they are not neglected. Youths in our society are the most productive when duly engaged. Even as the people of Akoko look forward to brighter future with Hon. Akogun Omole, accolades must be given to him for his relentless efforts for the common good of all.
